A lecture on the standardized management of laboratory hazardous waste
A lecture was held on October 20 by Zhang Min, director of the Business Management Department of Beijing Dingyuan HSBC Environmental Technology Co. Ltd. who was invited by the Party Branch of the Institute for Multidisplinary Innovation, as part of its effort to further promote the learning & education in CPC’s history, and to seriously implement the practice of "Doing Concrete Things for Teachers and Students". Director Zhang provided a special training on laboratory hazardous chemicals and waste disposal for all the students and faculty of the Institute’s research team, aiming to strengthen their safety awareness and to improve their ability of preventing and controlling potential safety hazards.
Director Zhang is a qualified Project Management Engineer (senior) on Environmental Protection Engineering (Hazardous Waste), an Environmental Pollution Control Engineer, and an internationally registered Senior Environmental Protection Engineering Management Consultant. She lectured intensively from five aspects: the definition of hazardous waste, the classification of laboratory hazardous waste, the classification and storage of laboratory contaminants, the state quo of laboratory management and its existing problems, as well as related laws, regulations and cases. With regard to the disposal of laboratory hazardous waste particularly, she emphasized that both the responsibility of those in charge of the laboratory and the source management should be strengthened.
During the lecure, all students and members of the Institute got a more comprehensive and systematic understanding in the disposal of laboratory hazardous waste, and said they would apply what they have learned into the future laboratory management to prevent and control potential safety hazards effectively. The lecture was unanimously praised by all the teachers and students, which also reinforced their trust in and support for the Party Branch of the Institute.
